The Vice Chancellor’s Lecture Series – March 2025

The 12 th session of the Vice Chancellor’s Lecture Series was successfully conducted on 19 th of March 2025 at 12.30 p.m. in the Senate Room of the igtƱ.

The speaker for the event was Mrs. Lakshani Weerasekara, a Lecturer (Prob.) at Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, igtƱ, with research expertise in primatology and wildlife conservation. Mrs. Lakshani Weerasekara delivered an insightful and timely speech on “Human Monkey Conflict in Sri Lanka & Strategies to Overcome the Challenge” highlighting the human-monkey conflict in Sri Lanka due to population overlaps, habitat loss, habitat degradation and improper garbage disposal, and explaining the current practices in other countries to mitigate human-monkey conflict and recommended long-term solutions in detail.

The audience included the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor, the Deans of the Faculties, Directors of Postgraduate Institutes and Centers, Heads of the Departments, as well as many academic and non-academic staff. The Vice Chancellor’s Lecture Series is aimed to provide the University community with a distinctive opportunity to engage with and learn from eminent speakers and professionals in their respective fields of expertise. It serves as a platform for intellectual enrichment, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and knowledge within the academic community.
